Haiti Splashes Slum with Psychedelic Colors
Trenton Daniel (Associated Press) writes about the makeover given to one of Haiti’s biggest shantytowns, Jalousie, which he describes as “a vast expanse of grim cinderblock homes on a mountainside in the nation’s capital.” He stresses that the colorful makeover aims to be part art and part homage, an effort being called “Beauty versus Poverty: Jalousie in Colors.” Meanwhile, critics claim that the project is only cosmetic.
